In the vast mosaic of Portuguese grape varieties, Avesso is one of the most discreet jewels and, perhaps for that reason, the most precious one. This white grape has been conquering the most demanding palates, producing wines that surprise with their freshness, minerality and with a very rare structure in the region’s whites.

It is in the heart of the Vinho Verde region, more specifically in Baião, the Avesso grape variety found its place. He rooted himself in the granite soils, adapted himself to the microclimate and learned to listen what the land had to tell him. We, at Dízimos, also listen. We chose the Avesso grape variety as the most authentic expression of our philosophy: a wine that respects time, nature and people.
The Avesso grape variety finds its preferred territory in the gentle, sunny slopes of the Northwest Entre-Douro-e-Minho region. Yet, though it is sometimes said that Avesso is born “between the Douro and the Sea”, it is important to clarify one very important aspect: the Avesso grape variety finds its true prime territory in inland areas, such as the Baião sub-region, in the Vinhos Verdes Demarcated Region. A non-coastal region, nor directly influenced by the Atlantic breeze as is the case of other sub-regions such as Monção and Melgaço.
The landscape of this sub-region is marked by deep valleys, steep slopes and a transitional climate, with hot summers and harsh winters, which offer the ideal conditions for the expression of the Avesso grape variety. Although the Atlantic is relatively close, it is the continental influence and altitude that shape the freshness, balanced acidity and minerality of the wines produced with this grape variety.
The microclimate, the continental influence and the richness of the granite soils create the perfect conditions to express the best that this grape variety has to offer. Quinta Miradouro dos Dízimos is one of these privileged places, where the Avesso grape variety feels at home and where it gains a truly authentic expression, materializing in a white wine with soul and longevity, with notes of citrus and white-fleshed fruits, but also subtle vegetal touches that speak of our terroir.
Versatile at the table, the Avesso grape variety is an excellent ally to traditional Portuguese dishes, such as cod fish, oven-baked rice or fattier fish dishes. Its natural acidity cleanses the palate, while its structure delicately envelops the flavor of food. It is also an ideal white for moments of sharing, long meals and long conversations.
