When we open a bottle of wine, we rarely think about the impact that choice may have on the planet. Would you believe if we told you that every sip can represent not only pleasure, but also a commitment to the earth? At Quinta Miradouro dos Dízimos, we believe that making wine is, above all, an act of care. Care for what? The vineyard, the people and the future.
Sustainable Farming: It All Starts with the Soil
The path to a wine with a light footprint begins where everything starts — in the soil. At Quinta Miradouro dos Dízimos, we practice regenerative viticulture, which respects not only natural cycles, but also strengthens them.
We manage our vineyards using techniques that avoid excessive chemical use, preserve local biodiversity and boost the natural fertility of the soil. All with a simple and clear goal: to produce grapes in a healthy ecosystem. For instance, did you know that planting cover crops between vineyard rows help prevent erosion, improve water retention and increase soil microbial life?
Taking care of the land is the first step to protect the flavour and the legacy we want to pass on.
Reducing Our Carbon Footprint: Small Actions, Big Impact
In wine production, every decision matter and has a consequence. At Quinta Miradouro dos Dízimos, our priorities include sourcing materials locally, using recyclable and recycled materials and minimizing waste at all stages of wine production.
We follow a circular and regenerative model, where everything that can be reused, effectively, is. For example, grape waste is composted or integrated into other stages of our agricultural production.
When the time to bottle our wines arrives, we choose lighter and more sustainable solutions: lightweight glass bottles, certified paper labels and packaging that reduces the impact on transport and the final carbon footprint.
Do all the wines we drink have this level of care? Not always. But it is also up to you, as a consumer, to start asking these questions.
Conscious Choices: The Role of the One Holding the Glass
Sustainability is not a trend — it is a mindset. The whole process begins with every choice each of us makes: what we eat, what we wear, and, of course, what we drink.
Choosing a responsibly produced wine is a way to support agricultural practices that regenerate the soil, protect ecosystems and respect local communities.
At Quinta Miradouro dos Dízimos, we call it giving a tithe to the future — giving back to the land what it gives to us.
And, what about you? Have you ever considered the impact your wine choice could have?
A Toast That Respects Its Roots
Sustainability is not a label to us — it’s a way of life. It outlines the way we care for our vineyards, but also how we interact with our visitors, our team and the people who bring our wine to the table.
Our production takes time, is careful and, more important, is conscious. We believe the future of wine lies in practices that nurture the earth – and all of us.
